Less than 4 weeks left before our great adventures starts, so excited! All the official things (international passport, visa, vaccines, insurance) are taken care off, more about this in another upcoming blog post.
Finally, I can start thinking about what to take along with me. I’ve been reading a lot of advice of other travelers and came up to this short list of absolute must-takes:
Choosing the right backpack is definitely one of the hardest choices you’ll have to make when buying your travel equipment. I strongly advise you to take a look at the website of AS Adventure: www.asadventure.com. These guys do more than just presenting you some backpacks. They give you advice to help you choose the right one. Next to that, the quality of their backpacks is the absolute best.
My favorite is this one: the Deuter Backpack Aircontact 65 + 10.
Both, comfortable and with air circulation, an absolute must-have when visiting warm countries. My previous Deuter backpack proved that this model never lets you down.
You’ll definitely need protecting and cool sunglasses when traveling. I have 2 KOMONO sunglasses for several reasons:
- the design is awesome
- the price is affordable
- the support is really astonishing
- the variety is large
- they proof that Belgian quality = reliable quality
A short story to tell you: I bought my first Komono sunglasses 1 year ago, but after several months they broke. I went to the shop, they told me to send pictures of the sunglasses to their support team. 1 hour after sending my mail, I got a reply with a voucher for new glasses. That’s what great customer care looks like. Thanks, Komono!
Picking the right watch is harder than you think. It depends on where you’d like to use it for: do you only wear watches for time checks? Do you like to track your activity? Or are your watch and your phone in a Robin-Batman relationship?
When you’re thinking about tracking your activity, consider a Fitbit. I bought myself a Fitbit Charge 2 months ago and I’m using it every single day. It corresponds easily and correctly with my smartphone allowing me to track my daily steps, my heart rate, my sleeping pattern, my activities… My Fitbit Charge 2 even notifies me when I receive an incoming call, text message and alerts me of my calendar items. With a battery that lasts about a week, it’s a watch that you will never let go off.
If you’re crazy enough to take a smartwatch with you to Asia, you can find more info via this link. There are several very good smartwatches on the market, but if you have the money and you have an iPhone, buy an Apple Watch 2. I have an iPhone and Macbook Pro and love the compatibility, so the Apple Watch 2 would be a great extension.
Taking a tablet on your trip is no priority. A smartphone is always the best option, unless you’re planning to edit pictures and write blogs, which we are of course.
The best way to find the right tablet is by scanning the internet and visiting a consumer electronics shop like the German Mediamarkt. I did it and fell in love with the Lenovo Yoga Book. It’s a super thin and advanced tablet with a large screen, responsive, a digital keyboard and it is extremely fast.
5. Action Camera
My girlfriend will be the one taking pictures on our trip, so I’m not going to write about what camera is the best. But if you intend to buy an Action Camera, I can tell you that the GoPro HERO4 I bought several years ago did not let me down since. It offers you high quality recording, a small touch screen, lots of useful settings, a waterproof case and much more.
While traveling through different countries, we will spend a lot of time on buses & trains. That’s why we decided to take an e-reader with us too. After examining the e-reader market, the Kobo Aura One is the best e-reader available right now. Why? Because it is a 7,8 inch, only weighs 230 grams and it’s by far the fastest e-reader on the market. I’ve tried it in a Mediamarkt and I was impressed by its capabilities.
As you can read, there is a lot of advanced useful stuff on the market, but it all depends on how much you’re willing to spend. Tweakers.net is the perfect website to compare different products and prices, so make sure to check it out.
We’d like to know what you recommend! Feel free to leave a comment if you used other tablets/backpacks/smartwatches/… and you’re super happy about them 🙂
